liars

Jayson Blair and Stephen Glass are two of the most famous journalists for the wrong reasons. They were both guilty of fabricating or plagiarizing their articles. Jayson and Stephen were both young journalists when they messed up their careers. Blair however copied another journalists articles instead of making them up like glass. Another mistake Blair made was he put incorrect facts instead of what really happened. Both journalists worked for big news companies.  The New Republic and The New York Times both did investigations when their reporters were accused of fabricating or plagiarizing their stories. Neither journalist were watched or thought to be faking their stories until someone accused them of it. They were both recently accused of fabricating or plagiarizing stories.

Stephen Glass story Spring Breakdown
http://wp.lps.org/akabour/files/2013/12/Spring-Breakdown-Stephen-Glass.pdf

I think the article is really believable because it sounds like something a college student would do. Stephen quotes a lot of people and he includes facts about the cpac. cpac is something that is real and he used people that actually talked at the event. He used college students from multiple different schools so it would be hard to find them so he did not get caught. He was so believable because in the office he was such a nice guy and nobody would think he would make up a story. He wrote what people wanted to hear so everyone was entertained and would not think about if the story was true or not. Another reason Glass got away with it is because he talked about it in first person like he was there instead of in third person. This makes the reader believe he was at the event and witnessed the story happening. He put in a lot of quotes and added a lot of defined detail about what happened. He gave detail that someone would only know if he was there or if he made it up.

Michael Jacksons death

The topic I picked is the death of Michael Jackson. I will tell you about some of the internet conspiracies, TV news coverage, and newspaper coverage. His death was caused by cardiac arrest but he was also on drugs during this. He had just launched an international tour and had to undergo a four and a half hour physical which he passed. He was addicted to painkillers which started in 1984 when his scalp got burned at a pepsi commercial. The heart attack may have been caused by a drug overdose.

One of the leading conspiracy theory is the autopsy is of somebody other the King of Pop himself. Another rumor about the autopsy is that the document was never signed by a doctor. They also believe that he faked his own death to get out of all the pressure of being a pop idol. There have also been a lot of  rumored sightings of Michael. They say he is a master of disguise and that he has put on disguises before. One sighting would be the MJ ghost but they say he could be Michael in an invisible suit. They believe he could be recreating the "Liberian Girl". That was when he gathered Steven Spielberg, John Travolta, and Whoopi Goldberg on to a set and recorded them waiting for him. They think he will end up still alive. This could be some dying hope in trying to keep a childhood idol alive or there could be some fact to this fiction. This is how the internet covered his death.

Since his death Jackson has been more popular than ever. He has stayed on top of the iTunes biggest-selling artist. Most of the public is in support of Michael and his family, they are also in favor of Conrad Murray being guilty. They believe as Jacksons doctor he is responsible for his overdose. There are two sides of this like in most cases, some people against Jackson and believe Murray should not be blamed for Jacksons own negligence. They believe Michael is to blame for his overdose because he was previously addicted to pain killers. They believe Murray when he said Jackson refused to get off of the sleeping sedative.

One major paper that covered Jackson's death is The New York Times. They started with his career history, going from a "musical boy wonder" to a '' sad figure haunted by lawsuits, paparazzi, and failed plastic surgery''. It than goes on to talk about his death. The next thing it goes on about it talks about the trail and the verdict on Murray's case. Another news station CNN covered it like this. First it talks about where and when Michael was pronounced died. It then goes on to talk about Jacksons family and how they feel about it and what they thought of Micheal.

One thing they did right is they covered how, when, and where Michael died. Another thing they did is they interviewed his family. The thing they did wrong is they left a lot of room for rumors to start up, they also left a lot of loose ends.
